My first word was “dog”, and when I was 4 I refused to go to ballet and demanded horseback riding lessons instead. I never stopped loving horses and eventually moved on to be a coach for new riders.
No one else in my family was an animal person – go figure? As a kid I used to sneak into my neighbour’s dog run to pet their bored lab. I’d pet him for hours, wishing I could jailbreak him. Today I have Gracie (here with me on the right) my two year old yellow lab and sidekick.
It’s really important to me that you and your pet have fun during your photo shoot. There’s honestly no stress, we go with the flow, and we use the time to go for a wander around and document the coolness that is your dog, cat or horse. I have some pretty creative tricks up my sleeve for working with even the most challenging subjects. Reactive dog, or a dog who can’t be off leash? No sweat. Swear you don’t photograph well? You will this time.
If I can help you help an animal, I will, so please ask.
Some volunteering I’ve been up to lately: A trip to Sayulita, to photograph homeless dogs at Sayulita Animals, Photoshoots for the beautiful cats at Katie’s Place Animal Shelter, Christmas Pictures of Dogs with Santa at Bosley’s (all proceeds to BCSPCA). A photoshoot for VOKRA. And a true highlight: a trip to Best Friends Animal Society, the largest no kill shelter in the world.
